Taxes
Who owes sales tax and VAT under each payment model, how ShopFast charges it at checkout, and the reports you get.
With ShopFast Pay
ShopFast is the merchant of record, so ShopFast owes the sales tax and VAT on those sales:
- Checkout charges the buyer the tax rate ShopFast sets for the buyer’s country, on top of the order total. The cart shows “Calculated at checkout” until the country is known.
- The tax is recorded separately in the ledger (tax payable) and never comes out of your share.
- ShopFast files and remits it. You do not register for VAT or sales tax for these sales.
You still report your own income: your payouts are your revenue from ShopFast.
With your own gateway
You are the seller of record. ShopFast adds no tax at checkout and remits nothing; charge, file and remit tax the way your business and the buyer’s country require.
Reports
Financials → Tax report lists, for a period, sales by buyer country with the tax collected, and says who remitted it (ShopFast for ShopFast Pay orders, you for your own gateway). Statements and the tax report export as CSV.
Rates and the countries ShopFast collects in are set by ShopFast and can change; changes apply to new orders only, since every order keeps the tax it was sold with.
